Year of the Horse 2014 Heaven Luck Prediction – by Edgar Lok Tin Yung – Dec 2013

Most Chinese Astrology Consultants or Feng Shui Masters nowadays just use the ‘Start of Spring (立春日)’ day and time plus the year and month in Lunar Calendar to construct a Four Pillars chart to predict events for the coming year.

In my opinion, using the ‘Start of Spring day’ and time to predict for the coming year is inaccurate as the Start of Spring day always falls in the Tiger month. Such Start of Spring day Four Pillar or Bazi chart is to predict personal luck. It does not predict Heaven Luck or world issues. Yearly prediction should use the Jia zi (甲子) cycle (Sexagenary cycle) and look at three different levels using the elements of the Heavenly Stem and Earthly branch of the year. These three levels are:

1. The Heaven Luck (predicts major issues of the world and weather).
2. The Earth Luck (Feng Shui for homes and offices.)
3. The Man Luck (predicts individual animal sign luck in the coming year)

There will be article for each topic. Here are the Heaven luck predictions.

Year of the Horse 2014 - The Heaven Luck

Heaven Luck is to predict major world events, weather and natural disasters. So people can prepare for it. The Heaven Luck energy kicks in when the Earth is passing the Winter Solstice, normally on the 21st or 22nd in December each year.

In 2012 year of the Dragon predictions, I mentioned: “According to calculation, the year of the Snake 2013 will be even worse in term of natural disasters.” Well we saw a lot lately.
So let see what may happen in the year of the Horse 2014.

The Heavenly Stem for 2014 is Yang Wood (甲).
The Earthly Branch underneath is Wu (午) Fire and its animal sign is Horse. The hidden elements are Earth Ji (己). The way of arrangement is top down.

甲 (Yang Wood)
午 (Fire with hidden element Earth)

It is always easier to understand an image than reading many words. So here are pictures for year of the horse 2014.
Yang Wood sits on Fire (Horse).

Year of the Horse - Yang Wood

Year of the Horse - Fire

Year of the Horse - Bushfire  Bush Fire

Yang Wood sits on top is the source to the Fire. Top level is government. Top level is the management level in a business organisation. Top level is parents.
So we will see a lot of unkind policies from top level cause anger to the bottom level.

Excessive Fire brings:

1. There will be bushfire burning out of control, most likely in South area, such as Indonesia, Philippines, South Australia, Southern Tasmania, and South Island in New Zealand. (Last year 2013, I predicted fire in Southeast. It was NSW bushfire in October/November 2013). Make sure you have a good fire plan.

2. Extremely hot weather in year of the Horse 2014. It brings Natural disasters in March, April May and September, October, November, such as heavy rains, hurricanes, typhoons and bushfire. March, April & May will be more disasters in South hemisphere and September, October, November will be more disasters in North hemisphere.
Year of the Horse 2014 has only 3 dragons producing water. The more number of the dragons (maximum up to 12) produce water, the more rainfall it produces for the year. 2014 has less rainfall year.

3. Severe volcano eruption and brings earthquake most likely in South America or New Zealand.

4. Yang Wood is Kindness but stubborn, Wood Fire is liver fire and liver fire is anger. In the year of the Horse, kindness will be transformed into anger. Therefore, there will be more protests, riots, clashes, conflicts, explosions, gun fire and even wars.
Will it be war between China and Japan? It most likely will not happen. If so, China wins as Feng Shui Period 8 support China more than Japan. There was Sino-Japanese war in 1894 (2 Sexagenary cycles before also in Wood Horse year), at that time it was Feng Shui period 2 and the Feng Shui luck did not support Qing Dynasty.

5. There will be more liver and heart related issues, such as hepatitis and heart attacks. Fire element could be circulation system, small intestine, eye and heart problems. We will see more such incidents happen during the year of the Horse. For your own health benefit, do exercise regularly. I suggest you also take health supplements such as Omega 3 fish oil, vitamin C, E to reduce cholesterol and prevent blockage of the arteries.

6. This is the Chinese character of 午, the earthly branch for 2014. Its animal sign is horse. It is also the Tai Sui direction.
Horse is a powerful animal. In the past, it is used for transportation. Nowadays, it symbolises CAR, electric power generators. So the car industry in 2014 faces great challenge such car manufacturing factories or car parts factories closing down, workers strike or even car factories explosions. There is high possibility that power stations explosions and bring electricity issues.
In Chinese Astrology Horse (Fire) clash with Rat (Water). As a result, any company has logo looks like rat may experience difficulties, companies such Disneyland (Mickey Mouse), Qantas (Kangaroo Chinese translation is pouch rat).

Year of the Horse is also peach blossoms year.

Year of the Horse 2014 is a Peach Blossom or Flower of Romance year which having to do with romance, especially illicit romance, sex scandals and sexual affairs exposed. The year of the Horse will have lot more news similar to the year of the Rat in 2008 and Year of the Rabbit 2011.

Year of the Rat 2008 had news on New York Governor Elliot Spitzer prostitute scandal, Hong Kong movie star Edison Chen nude photos scandal and so on.

Year of the Rabbit 2011, Former Republican Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger’s sex scandal was exposed. He had fathered a child more than a decade ago with a member of their household staff.

Peach Blossom or Flower of Romance year however is good for the entertainment, beauty and fashion businesses.

The year of the Horse 2014, Yang Wood sits on Fire. In Five Element theory Wood produces Fire. As a result, too much fire will destruct metal. Metal is the trigrams of Qian and Rui. The trigram Qian is the head, or head of a country, head of a company, and head of a house. Rui is the young girls. These two types of persons can easily become angry and lose temper and make bad decisions.

Fire produces Earth

Earth is property. Property industry will be benefited from the Fire.

Earth can reduce excess fire. In Five Quality, Earth is trust and faith. Therefore in the year of Horse, One’s credibility, integrity is ultra-important which can help avoid unnecessary troubles.
Be very careful in March, June and September, October in 2014 if you are speculating on the share market.

2014 and 2015 “Gold in Sand”

“甲午乙未砂中金” The Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch combine and they produce Metal element in year of the Horse 2014 and year of the Goat 2015. It is called “Gold in Sand”.
Gold here means metal element. Metal element is hidden inside sands. Excessive fire element damages the Metal element. Metal element is banking and finance, accounting, insurance, mining, metal manufacturing industries and so on.

Annual Flying Star Number 4

Year of the Horse 2014, the annual Feng Shui flying star number 4 (4 green) is located in the centre palace. It is Wood element. It is an academic star. It represents chicken. It represents wind. It represents thigh.
Annual Start number 4 resides in the centre palace. It brings negative issue to education, publication. It brings issue to chicken. It brings issue causes by wind (hurricanes).

Feng Shui Energy also know as Qi or Chi.

Feng Shui is one of the Chinese Five Arts. Most books mention Feng Shui is from I-Ching (Book of Changes). Some scholars say it is the experience accumulated from ancient Chinese Sages. Some people do not know much about Feng Shui and think that if someone believes in Feng Shui, there is Feng Shui. And if someone does not believe in Feng Shui, there is not Feng Shui.

Let’s not argue about the origin of Feng Shui. Let’s take a look from the big picture.

Feng Shui in Chinese literally means “Wind Water”. We know that wind is the movement of air across the Earth's surface and Water is the most abundant compound on Earth's surface, covering about 70% of the planet. Wind and Water exist before all we exist. Wind and Water exist before human were born.

No doubt about it, wind and water play an important role in our life. We all live in the Feng Shui (wind water) world. Based on our living on Earth, without wind and water, you and I cannot exist.

One of Feng Shui Energy is air movement

Movement of air and water involves energy. Ancient Chinese Sages called it Qi (Sometimes you may see it translated as Chee or Chi). The English translation of Qi is Energy and energy cannot be seen. Feng Shui energy cannot be seen.
There are three different Chinese Characters describing of three different Chi. And most of the Chinese Feng Shui consultants or even masters do not know how to write the correct Qi character. I will write about the difference between these 3 Chinese Qi characters in my later post.

Movement of air, wind or Qi will affect us because it moves the unseen energy or feng shui energy. In the classical Feng Shui text from “Zang Shu” (The Book of Burial) written By Guo Po (276-324) and “Feng Shui” was first mentioned in his book.

Here are a few sentences from his book:

“Qi is dispersed when it rides on the wind [Feng]"
And is halted when it is bounded by a water course [Shui].”
The ancients were able to accumulate it and prevent it from dispersing.
They could channel it and keep it in one place.
And so it was called Feng Shui.

Something cannot be seen does not mean they do not exist. You cannot see wind, but you see the trees moving their branches. If you stay at a windy place and the wind blowing directly on you, for sure, you feel uncomfortable because your Qi is dispersed. In Feng Shui, strong windy is called Wind Sha Qi (Bad wind energy). Wind Sha blows away your wealth and then health.

Here is an example; Docklands in Melbourne is a windy place, bad Feng Shui energy Sha Qi. It is not a busy place. Because it is windy, visitors do not like to stay for long and is affecting businesses in the area.

Feng Shui energy at windy place

At windy place, the taller of a structure, the stronger of the wind Sha (Bad Feng Shui energy) it faces. A typical example in Docklands is the Melbourne Star observation wheel. You can Google it and find out what happened in the past 5 years about the wheels.

Besides the wind issue, the sitting and facing of the wheels is incorrect. I took some students there a few years ago. We found that the sitting and facing of the wheel also has issue. Sitting and facing of a structure determinates its unseen Feng Shui Energy Qi which can be helpful or harmful to the structure. The structure is sitting on the void direction and void direction in Feng Shui will produce all sorts of troublesome.

The Wheel is expecting to reopen by Christmas 2013. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/docklands-troubleplagued-observation-wheel-set-to-open-in-ten-weeks/story-fni0fiyv-1226746281272 I really hope it will be opened as schedule and run smoothly in the future.

Now you know how to choose your next home. It is to avoid windy place – wind Sha, bad Feng Shui energy.

From the wind and energy concept, the flow of energy can bring positive energy and negative energy to a place. In addition, activation of place can bring positive energy and negative energy to a place too.
If you are experiencing some rough time or good time out of blue, these may be caused by the activation of energy around you, your home or your office. Activation of energy can bring good or bad results.
Energy activation may be renovation, building construction or demolition around your house or office. Moving earth or digging your front or backyard in your own home will activate the energy. Sometimes rearrangement of furniture or bed also can activate the energy too.

If you have activated any Feng Shui energy lately and experiencing rough time out of blue, you should have a professional Feng Shui consultant come and audited your place for you.

Date Selection in the Pig month7th November - 7th December is the Pig month in the year of the Snake in 2013.

The animal sign Pig Clashes with Snake. The Pig month clashes with Snake year.

Although Date Selection is more focus on the day, the year and the month still need to add into the equation. Within the month which clashes
with the year (Grand Duke or Tai Sui), it is advice not to have ultra-important events planned and performed.

If you cannot postpone an event which you have a deadline to meet and deadlines are on either of these dates, I strongly suggest you re-schedule your event to a better day to utilize the day's energy and bring smooth and better result.

Here are the BAD days in the Pig month.

Thursday 7th November
Monday 11th November
Sunday 17th November
Saturday 23rd November
Friday 29th November
Thursday 5th December

These dates are GOOD for your important events. However be careful you need to know your animal signs.

Saturday 9th November     (Not suitable for animal sign: Rooster)
Wednesday 13 November  (Not suitable for animal sign: Ox)
Friday 15th November        (Not suitable for animal sign: Rabbit)
Thursday 21 November       (Not suitable for animal sign: Rooster)
Monday 25th November     (Not suitable for animal sign: Ox)

For the other dates in the Pig month which are not mentioned above, they
don't have good or bad energy. So they won't bring positive result to your events.

Hope you can benefit from this post.

Buddy Franklin. Hooray! The 2013 AFL (Australian Football League) season has ended with Hawthorn (the Hawks) winning the premiership (much to the delight of my son who is a huge Hawks fan!).

Perhaps one of the most exciting sporting headlines recently, has centred around the highly publicised deal made that has Lance Franklin (aka Buddy Franklin) move to Sydney in one of the AFL’s biggest and most lucrative contracts to date.

Being such a public figure of interest right now, I thought he would make an excellent case study analysing his birth chart. Analysing Buddy Franklin ’s chart highlights the accuracy and benefits of having your birth chart analysed and the information that it yield you. Makes for excellent planning and guidance as you can know what is in store for you in years to come. In Buddy Franklin 's case, his chart exactly reflects the things going on his life right now and shows with precision what lies ahead for him both in his professional and personal life. Let's take a closer look.......
In the next season 2014 year of the Horse, he will be playing for the Sydney Football club – The Swans. He has transferred from Hawthorn Football Club to Sydney Football Club.

Lance Buddy Franklin has played for Hawthorn Football club since 2005. He has been with Hawthorn in the last eight years. He was outstanding and played extremely well. Why is there change for him this year? Why he is moving to another football club and gets more pay? Is this his fate and luck? Are there signs shows in his Chinese Astrology chart?

Let me look at his chart and see what signs I can find.

I googled his name and found he was born on the 30th January 1987. (No birth hour) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Franklin According to Chinese Astrology calculation, He was born in the Year of the Tiger.

The way Chinese Astrology works is that we need to convert one’s birthday data (Year, Month, Day and Hour) into Heavenly Stems and Earthly branches to construct the Chinese Astrology chart. Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches is a unique method of recording time in Chinese Calender. Each Stem and Branch carries an element. (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water)

In Chinese Astrology fortune telling, the birth hour is important, especially when a person is over 49 years old. Since he is still very young, so let me just look at the Year, Month and Day. However if anyone connected to or knows Lance directly, please feel free to contact me or send me his birth hour for further analysis.

Here is Buddy Franklin 's Chinese Astrology chart after conversion: The Natal Chart, Luck Pillars and Yearly Pillars.

Buddy Franklin Chinese Astrology Chart

Buddy Franklin was born on a Yin Earth Rabbit Day, Yin Metal Ox month and Yang Fire Tiger year.

Buddy Franklin is a Yin Earth Person.

Earth element is Self-element. (He has one: Ox)

Metal element is his Output. (He has one: yin Metal Xin)

Fire element is his Resource. (He has one: Yang Fire Bing)

Wood element is his Power. (He has two: Tiger and Rabbit)

Water element is his wealth. (He has none. How come he earns that much?)

Note: Power, Resource, Self-element, and Output, wealth are Chinese Astrology jargons. The element representation of Power, Resource, Self-element, wealth and Output are various in different charts.

He has two Wood elements in his chart. Wood is his power. Wood in our body represents arms and legs. (Hawthorn is also a kind of tree and it is wood element too)  He is full of strength and famous for his powerful kick.

Fire element is his Resource. It also represents fame and name. Wood enhances Fire. It means his powerful kick brings him Fame.

Metal element is his Output. Metal is not a good element for him. However, the metal element is controlled and combined by the Yang Fire and its bad effects were reduced.

Most of the Chinese Astrology books teach that Water element is wealth to an Earth Day Master. Lance Franklin has none. Seems contradictory and the poses the question: How can he earn that much, one match of pay is equal to an average person’s annual salary?

The answer is that there is a condition for Water element to be Wealth for an Earth Day Master but those books do not mention. The condition is the classification of the chart type.

In Buddy’s chart, Earth element is his wealth, not Water element. He has Ox in his month branch which is earth.

In his chart, we can tell that (wood) power enhances his (Fire) fame, and Fire enhances Earth (money / wealth). Power is his strength. He has to use his strength to make money. Hence he is not an office person.

In his Chart, The Yang Fire Bing is the most important element to him. In Chinese Astrology, the Fire in his chart is the useful element. Sometimes it is also called useful God.

“In Chinese Astrology, the Natal chart is the Gene, The Luck Pillars and yearly pillars are the time table.”

So let’s look at the luck pillars and yearly pillars bring to the Natal chart.

Lance’s current luck pillar is Yang Wood Dragon. Dragon is Earth. Wood and Earth luck pillars represent Power and Money or wealth. It does not stop here. The most amazing thing is that the combination of the Luck Pillar with the Natal Chart brings in even more Earth (Money) and Wood (Power) Element.

Look at the following, it shows the route of the combination.

Buddy Franklin Chinese Astrology chart with luck cycle

It may look complicated. However, all the combinations, reactions between the stems and branches changed to useful elements to benefit the natal chart. I am going to explain them in details. Some of you may be get bored. But if you know Chinese Astrology, you will be able to figure it out why.

Some of you may notice that this year is 2013 year of the Snake and wonder if I made a mistake by starting the combination at 2012 year of the Dragon. This is not a mistake; the yearly luck does not automatically start on the Chinese New Year day. Each person has a different yearly starting day unless they are twin. In accordance with true authentic calculation, Buddy Franklin ’s yearly luck is still in 2012 year of the Dragon. That is why we can explain why he has significant increase in income. This is due to Dragon + Dragon (Earth + Earth) money has double up. The water enhances the Yang Wood Jia (power) in the luck pillar. The Power also symbolises new job, promotion and new place for him.

The only year that shows any possible complications or concern is indicated in 2017 in which care must be exercised in certain parts of his chart (career, personal etc).

All in all, Buddy Franklin has very good luck cycle in the next few years.

I wish Buddy Franklin all the best!

Date Selection - Good days in October 2013.

Before I list some auspicious dates in the Dog month, October 2013. Let me explain the significant that date selection information provide you with.

Date Selection is another important aspect in Chinese Five Arts. Please read my article Chinese Metaphysics and Five Arts. This will give you good background and excellent understanding on how this affects you.

In Chinese Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology culture, selecting an auspicious date for a significant event is a must. To name a few, significant events such as products launching, wedding, relocating office, moving house, new boat entering water, even haircut and so on.

To select a date for a caesarean section is different. It does not only require an auspicious date, but also need to balance the selected date with the Year, Month and Birth hour. In addition to that, the selected date also needs to incorporate with the luck pillars. If just selecting a date for the caesarean section without looking into the Natal chart with luck pillars interaction of the new born, might as well let it go nature birth. I will discuss this topic in the future post.

If you have read the Chinese Metaphysics and Five arts article, you will note that Chinese Medicine is one of the Five Arts. Now you may ask why we need to select an auspicious date for Chinese Medicine treatment.

The answer is simple: By selecting an auspicious date for Chinese Medicine treatment is to maximize the healing effect.

Acupuncture is a major branch of Chinese Medicine treatment. A good acupuncture practitioner is very particular about certain time of the day to insert needles to certain pressure points of certain meridian lines. This acupuncture subject is called: “子午流注”. (Zi Wu Liu Zhu).

I will explorer the above date selection methods with you in future post. Today, I will focus on giving you the auspicious dates in October (the Dog month of 2013). Ongoing each month I will post an article letting you know the auspicious dates of that month. This should assist you greatly in planning you month and maximizing good outcomes.

Please bear in mind that these dates given are generally auspicious. However, due to your personal element interaction with the dates’ element, it may not be the best date for you.

Date Selection - Data from Tong Shui

Date Selection in Dog Month 2013

The Dog month starts: 8th October 2013 at 11am until 7th November 2013

These dates are bad. Please DO NOT use these dates for major events. They bring bad results:
Saturday 12th October
Thursday 17th October
Thursday 24th October
Tuesday 29th October
Sunday 3rd November
Monday 4th November
Tuesday 5th November
Wednesday 6th November

These dates are GOOD for your important events. However be careful you need to know your animal signs.

Wednesday 9th October    (Not suitable for animal sign: Tiger)
Saturday 19th October       (Not suitable for animal sign: Rat)
Monday 21st October          (Not suitable for animal sign: Tiger)
Monday 28th October         (Not suitable for animal sign: Rooster)
Thursday 31st October       (Not suitable for animal sign: Rat)
Saturday 2nd November    (Not suitable for animal sign: Tiger)

Except for the animal signs mentioned above, 19th and 31st are particularly good for wedding; especially you want to have children straight away.

For the other dates in the Dog month which are not mentioned above, they don’t have good or bad energy. So they won’t bring positive result to your event.
Hope you can benefit from this post.

Feng Shui Effects from a burial site, sometimes it shows interesting correlation.

I went to Hong Kong on the 29 August. I stayed with my parents for 3 weeks. I apologise for not getting back sooner to those who rang and emailed me for Feng Shui consultations or Chinese Astrology readings.

Now I am back. I am ready for your Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology Bazi, Four pillars of destiny enquiries and consultations.

During the three weeks in Hong Kong, I did not do much. Other than one afternoon, I went to audit a Yin Feng Shui burial place in New Territories, Hong Kong and went to China for 2 nights also for Yin Feng Shui related matter. (For sure there will be another interesting Feng Shui case study. I will write about these Feng Shui cases study later.)

All other time, I stuck to Mum and Dad as much as possible.

Staying with elderly parents, it is always easier to talk to them about the past. Once again the Feng Shui topic came up during our conversation. Dad said he can still vividly remember the night relocating and burial his grandfather’s bones in a new grave in a December night in 1972. I have written part of this case as a personal story of Yin Feng Shui in What is Feng Shui section.

Now it is time to go deeper into the Feng Shui aspect of this particular burial site, to analysis its sitting and facing, incoming water, water mouth in relation to the time (years) and the clan development after the burial. Sometimes it shows very interesting correlation.

I was born before this burial. So this burial site only has about 15% Feng Shui effects on me. However, this burial site has much big effect on a person who was born after the burial.

Dad quickly pulled out some Feng Shui information about the burial site. He was writing the family history and drawing family trees lately. All information is very handy. He turned to the page of his notes which he re wrote from the scattered old notes.

Feng Shui Effects of Great Grandfather's Grave

The first thing caught my eyes was the siting and facing of the burial site and date selected for the re-burial.

Dad's hand writing of the burial site and Feng Shui Effects.

In traditional Feng Shui, Feng Shui masters are very particular about the siting and the facing and date selection. In Feng Shui jargon, the siting and facing is called “fenjin”. If you ask a Feng Shui consultant what is “fenjin” and he or she is unable to answer you then this Feng Shui consultant is not a traditional one.

There are lots of techniques, especially in yin Feng Shui, in setting the “fenjin” correct. There are such as “big fenjin” and “small fenjin”, the left “fenjin” and right “fenjin”.

To avoid the void line in Feng Shui sitting and facing, the traditional way of setting the “fenjin” always uses “AND 兼 ” lines.

My great grandfather grave’s “fenjin” is sitting Gen facing Kun AND 兼Ox, Goat. The date selected was in an Ox hour (1-3 am) in one morning in December 1972.

Dad said he can still remember before the ceremony it was raining. When it reached the selected hour, the sky cleared out and during the ceremony he could see clear sky and stars above. He said at that moment, he felt very calm, tranquil and peaceful. After the ceremony it rained again.

Now let’s look the Feng Shui effects of the burial site.

For genuine traditional Feng Shui consultants, they are able to predict what is going to happen to its offspring in related to a particular grave.

By looking at the “fenjin”, the sitting has Ox animal sign. Interestingly, in the year of the Ox, January 1974 before the Start of Spring, my younger brother was born. His animal sign Ox is in line with “fenjin”.

The triple harmony of metal combination is Snake, Rooster and Ox. In the other words, according to this burial site’s data, the significant years for my younger brother are the Snake, Rooster and Ox years.

I asked my brother the significant years in his career. He gave me the answers.

Now, let’s look at the past years, Snake (2001, 2013) years, rooster (2005) year and Ox (2009) year of him.

He told me he joined and accepted into the HK Police force in 2001, year of the Snake. It matches with the Feng Shui effects of the burial site.

He was promoted to Chief Inspector in late 2005, early 2006. (Year of the Rooster) It matches with the sitting and facing feng shui effects of the burial site.

He was transferred from uniform unit to management role in 2007 (year of the pig). No promotion just moved to different area.

He was transferred to another department in 2011 till now.

As 2013 is year of the Snake, I told him while we were having dinner a few weeks ago, according to the sitting and facing of the burial site’s feng shui effects. He would most likely be promoted later or early next year. Let’s wait and see.

He then said he felt that he has been doing well in the year of Snake so far. He had cracked a very difficult case. I believed this is going to give him some positive change. It also matches with the sitting of the Feng Shui Site.

To have good Feng shui effects of a burial site, the site must have good Feng Shui. The sitting and facing must be correct. The date selected for burial must support the dragon.
Besides Feng Shui effects, we as human beings must be humble, good hearted, working hard and doing the right thing contributing to the society.

Chinese Metaphysics and Five ArtsChinese Metaphysics! Strictly speaking, Chinese Astrology Bazi or Four Pillars of Destiny, Feng Shui, Divination, Mian Xiang (Face reading) cannot be classified as Chinese Metaphysics. These four subjects plus Chinese medicine (山, 醫, 命, 卜, 相) are called “Five Arts”. (五術 ) Yet, a lot of Feng Shui Masters called them Chinese Metaphysics. May be these Feng Shui masters want to give these “Five Arts” a better status. Or May be these Feng Shui Masters do not know what they have really learnt or they have really taught about what is Chinese Metaphysics.

According to Wikipedia.org: Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy concerned with explaining the fundamental nature of being and the world. Traditionally, metaphysics attempts to answer two basic questions in the broadest possible terms (same as Chinese Metaphysics):

1. What is ultimately there?
2. What is it like?

Feng Shui, Chinese Medicine, Chinese Astrology Bazi or Four Pillars of Destiny, Divination, Xian Xiang, these so called Chinese Metaphysics, none of these subjects can explain and answer the above two questions. Therefore, these subjects (Five Arts) cannot be categorised as Chinese Metaphysics. I haven’t heard western astrologers or Gypsy fortune teller called their subjects as Western Metaphysics.

Perhaps, the Dao, Tao or “The Way” 道, the philosophical concept form Laozi is what that is ultimately out there. However Laozi himself did not know what it is. In Tao Te Ching or Daodejing, he stated:

“有物混成,先天地生,寂兮寥兮,獨立而不改,周行而不殆,可以為天下母。吾不知其名,強名之曰道…..” Chapter 25.

My Translation:  “There is mixed substance. Exists before heaven and earth, silence and quiet, independent and never changed, orbiting and never vanish. It can be the mother of the heaven and earth. I do not know its name. I reluctantly calls it Dao…..” Chapter 25.

Chinese Metaphysics and Five Arts are not the same!

“Five Arts” is not equal to Chinese Metaphysics. Five Arts cannot explain what is ultimately there. In my opinion, Five Arts is a small part of traditional Chinese culture. It is not different from Chinese chess “Go”, Chinese painting, Chinese Calligraphy and rice craving. If applying correctly, such activities can add colors and improve well-being to our life.

Yet some Feng Shui Masters make a song and dance out of the Five Arts. Such as Feng Shui can turn you into a millionaire or even billionaire and some Feng Shui masters teach millionaire Feng Shui secrets. And at the same time some of them teach Chinese Astrology Bazi to decode your destiny.

Is there any contradictory here? Decoding your destiny and turn you into a billionaire!

I am really interested in knowing what percentage of people who attending millionaire Feng Shui course become a millionaire.

Can Feng Shui masters guarantee all his/her students become millionaires / billionaires by attending the millionaire Feng Shui course? If so, why do they still need students? They can just turn their parents, spouse, and children into billionaires. Why do some of them still travelling here and there to promote their Feng Shui courses?

Five Arts is just a tool. If we can use it to understand more about ourselves and our destiny, it is the biggest gift to human being from our Chinese Sages . By understand ourselves, our abilities, out strength, our weakness and our destiny, we can live more happily. In my opinion, you don’t need to be a billionaire to be happy. (I am not a billionaire but I am happy and grateful what I have.) How would you know you will be happier if you become a billionaire? (I am not a billionaire. I don’t know the answer. Perhaps one day you can tell me. )

“There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.” Oscar Wilde (1854-1900)

Both western and eastern philosophers, such as Laozi (6th-5th century BCE), Aristotle (384 BC – 322 BC), keep telling us to understand or know ourselves is important.

One of the aphorisms said to have been given by the Greek god Apollo's Oracle of Delphi, so attributed to Apollo. And the most famous one is perhaps 'Know thyself' and was carved into Apollo's temple at Delphi.

"Know yourself and you will win all battles" Sun Zi ( 544–496 BCE)

"Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom." Aristotle.

“知人者智,自知者明” Laozi ,Chapter 33.
My translation: “Understand others you are wise. Understand yourself you are bright (intelligent)” Laozi Chapter 33, Daodejing Chapter

Unfortunately, most people do not use “Five Arts” correctly. They either misuse or they are misled by the Five Arts or those who teaches Five Arts.

Except for one Feng Shui master, he applied his Feng Shui to become a billionaire (Hong Kong Dollars, but still a lot), however he ended up in a jail in Hong Kong.

Have you met any other Feng Shui masters become billionaires by applying Feng Shui?

Studying Five Arts is to find out and be grateful what you have.(I will write another about this topic later)

"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough" — Oprah Winfrey (1954 -  )

Have you ever thought about why are there Five Elements, neither six elements nor eight elements in Chinese Astrology Bazi?
Well this is my answer. It is because of Five (5) elements cannot be evenly distributed in the Natal chart. By adding the luck pillar to the natal chart, sometimes Yang (good luck) has more power and sometimes Yin (bad luck) has more power. There are always favorable elements and unfavorable element in our chart. Just focus on the favorable elements.

Chinese Metaphysics is different from Five Arts.

Feng Shui formulas to be a successful Feng Shui Consultant!

I went to a Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology seminar held in Melbourne on the weekend. The speaker was Joey Yap. Joey Yap is a young, smart and ambitious Chinese Metaphysics entrepreneur. I went to his seminar because I wanted to thank him for referring me a client a few years back. In addition, I am catching up with him and other fellow Feng Shui practitioners.

Joey has translated a lot of Chinese Metaphysics texts, such as Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology Bazi and face reading into English. He has produced over 110 titles of books. If I were able to read a book a week, it would have taken me over 2 years. I mean just read the books without digest those Feng Shui formulas.

If for a normal person to read and digest the Feng Shui formulas from the books, it may take 3 – 4 times longer. As a result, it may take 6 - 8 years full time to understand all the contents.

Feng Shui formulas

From left to right, Mina, Joey and myself.

Joey is a very good presenter and also very good at promoting his business and selling his books. He is an excellent businessman. I have learnt a lot of marketing techniques form him.

He has evolved old Chinese metaphysics wisdom into modern practice. I agreed some of his new definitions in Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology Bazi or Four Pillars of destiny. Unfortunately, I did not completely agree with him. (Sorry Joey)

I did not agree with him about who has great potential to study Chinese Metaphysics well and become a Chinese Astrology and Feng Shui consultant.

He mentioned there are one of these 3 Feng Shui formulas found in a person’s Bazi chart or from face reading, then this person will be a potential Chinese Metaphysics practitioner. These three Feng Shui formulas are:

  1. A person’s Bazi chart has a Ding (yin fire) or Gui (yin water).
  2. A person has a big occipital bone stick out at the back of his head.
  3. Has a Taiji Nobleman animal sign in one’s Bazi chart.

Let’s have a details look at these 3 Feng Shui formulas.

Feng Shui formulas number 1.

A person’s Bazi chart has a Ding (yin Fire) or Gui (yin water).

Well, we all know there are 10 heavenly stems. Ding plus Gui is 2. 2 out of 10 stems is 20%. There are four pillars in a Bazi chart, each pillar has 20% chance of having a Ding or Gui. 4 x 20% = 80%. So every Bazi chart has 80% chance of becoming a Feng Shui consultant.

Feng Shui formulas number 2.

A person has a big occipital bone stick out at the back of his head.

Joey mentioned in the old days, Masters would touch his students / disciples’ occipital bone at the back of their head. If it is a big occipital bone stick out, the personal has great potential.

In my opinion, if you think about it, nowadays, we have better food and nutrient. As a result, the occipital lobe develops must better than the people from the old days. I believe in Australia or Western countries almost over 80% of people have good size of occipital bone. I touched my kids’ occipital bone. They all have good size.

The occipital lobe is the visual cortex. Studying Chinese Feng Shui one needs good eye sights.

Feng Shui formulas number 3.

Has a Taiji Nobleman animal sign in one’s Bazi chart.

There is a Taiji Nobleman Feng Shui formula to work out the Taiji Nobleman for the Day Master.

According to the Taiji Nobleman formula, except for stems Yin Earth and Yang Earth, both have four animals as Taiji Nobleman; all other stems have 2 animal signs to be its Taiji nobleman. It is not hard to work out the percentage. There are 12 animal signs in Chinese Astrology Bazi chart. We mentioned above any person has four pillars in their Bazi chart. Using a simple method, 2 out of 12 is 1/6 x 4 pillars = 66.66%.

So to sum up all the three Feng Shui formulas above, almost everyone has great potential to be a Feng Shui consultant. By the way, I did small sampling study. My kids, wife and I are all met the conditions.

So true, everyone can be a Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology consultant. We don’t need the above feng shui formulas to work it out.

In my opinion, to be a successful Feng Shui consultant, the followings are more important than the above three Feng Shui formulas.

Feng Shui Master and tall building Feng Shui!

A well trained Feng Shui Master or A feng shui Consultant will be able to tell the characteristics and the boom and bust of a city (Say Melbourne as I live here) if they know the water flowing direction and the tallest building’s position within that city. To be able to do this, a Feng Shui Master / Consultant must equip with good memory, good observation skills and hand on practice. Let me tell you why!

Feng Shui is a metaphysics subject yet Feng Shui learning is also an observation and practical subject too. Feng Shui has three parts, theories, observation and hand on practice. Unlike other subjects such as history, literature or philosophy, these subjects require only good memory. Learning Feng Shui not only need good memory, but also need good eyes and good hand on practice.

Feng Shui Masters need good memory

A genuine feng shui master / consultant needs good memory to memorize the theories and formula, such as data marks on the Lo Pan aka. Feng Shui compass and how to apply them. Feng Shui master / consultants need good eyes to observe mountains and waters, as these waters and mountains forms come in different shapes. A Feng Shui Master / consultant needs to memorize the characteristics and the Feng Shui effects of these forms.

Waters include steams, creeks, rivers, ponds (swimming pool) and lakes. Mountain forms are physical substance or large objects, small hills, mountain ranges and tall buildings. Water forms and mountain forms are both classified into Wu Xing, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Yes, there are waters in water shapes and mountain in water shape too. Unfortunately, forms are not always purely in one element. They exist in mix elements such wood mix with fire or fire mix with earth. If all the forms are in one pure element shape, learning feng shui will be much easier.

Looking (observation skill comes in) at any city in the world, the most popular building forms we can see often are wood mixing with fire shapes. The reason is the buildings are built taller and taller. The top parts of those buildings are normally pointy. Look at the picture below. We can see most of these buildings have a pointy top. Pointy shape is fire element.

World Buildings Feng Shui Master

So what would be the affects of those tall buildings bring in term of Feng Shui? There are two Feng Shui areas we can inspect into:

1. The individual house feng shui affect by those tall buildings, and
2. The city as a whole in big scale Feng Shui effect by those buildings.

Tall buildings affecting Feng Shui house individually, as you may know Feng Shui is based on Yin and Yang. Yin is negative and Yang is positive. So those very tall buildings can bring good and positive effects to certain houses. Those high rise buildings also can bring bad and negative effects to certain houses. It is all depending on the direction, position, distance and time in relationship to a house or another building.

In term of large scale Feng shui, tall buildings Feng shui effect for a city as a whole is also depending on the position of the tall building in that city. Let’s look at an example; the tallest building in Melbourne is Eureka Tower. I am sure you can google it and find out more information about the Eureka Tower. I am not going to tell you the features of the Tower. I am going to tell you the Feng Shui effect of the Eureka Tower for Melbourne.

EurekaTower Tall building Feng Shui and Feng Shui Master

The Tower is located at the Southbank, south side of Yarra River. Actually it is not exactly in the south. It is southeast south from Melbourne CBD. In Feng shui theory, southeast area in a city represents culture, education, arts, music of that city. A tall structure or tall building in the southeast area of a city will promote culture related activities. Before the Eureka Tower was built, the Melbourne Art Centre’s Spire helps promote that as well. In term of Feng Shui, both the Eureka Tower and Melbourne Art Centre Spire are at the Southeast area in relation to Melbourne city itself. They both promote culture and culture related activities. Eureka Tower is taller and it has bigger Feng Shui effect.

Interestingly, 2012 census confirms Melbourne as one of the world’s Live Music Capitals. Melbourne has more live music venues than any other capital cities in Australia. General impression of Melbourne to the world, it is an art capital, even graffiti in Melbourne’s lane-ways developed into art too. Here is a photo of it.

Hand on and practical skills in Feng Shui are very difficult discuss to on paper. There are kills such as how to hold the Lo Pan, where to measure the facing and sitting of a house, how to locate the Taiji of the house, outside water flowing left to right or right to left and so. All these skills need real world practice directed by an authentic Feng Shui master.
